چکیده
Abstract Background Pancreatic cancer surgery has a multi-system impact on potentially vulnerable population. Current rates of adjuvant chemotherapy uptake are low. Our group developed multidisciplinary bundle care with the aim improving recovery after surgery. The primary was to improve and secondary prevent nutritional decline. Methods This prospective, observational, cohort study evaluated effect ‘Fast Recovery’ programme. programme, input from dieticians, physiotherapists, surgeons, geriatricians comprising pre- post-operative frailty assessments, support physiotherapy implemented for all within our unit undergoing pancreatic resection cancer. (See Fig. 1) Results Over 1 year, patients enrolled in Fast Recovery programme (N = 44) were compared those treated prior pathway change 409). not associated significant increase (80.5 vs. 74.3%, p 0.452), but did lead significantly lower average weight loss (4.3 6.9kg, 0.013). Patients that receive performed worse pre-operative six minute walk test (mean distance: 277 454 metres, 0.001). Conclusions Feasibility multimodal package patient following been shown by this pilot study. No improvement observed, however, result being underpowered. "Recovery" of In-111 Chloride uptake in spleen and bone marrow, after chemotherapy for acute leukemia
A man with acute myelogenous leukemia, treated with chemotherapy, had a decrease in circulating formed blood elements. Bone marrow biopsy revealed necrosis. Imaging with In-Ill chloride demonstrated activity in the liver, but not in the spleen or bone marrow. Eighteen days later, the circulating blood count had risen; a repeat bone marrow biopsy showed the return of blood cell precursors....
متن کاملFast recovery after radical cystectomy. A multidisciplinary challenge
Radical cystectomy nowadays is the treatment of choice for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Despite many efforts, the overall, cancer-specific survival and complication rate of patients after this procedure has not changed in the last few decades. In the recent years many fast recovery protocols or “fast track” programs have been designed to become the basis of perioperative management after col...

Adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy after curative resection of gastric cancer.
To the Editor—In the February issue of Hong Kong Medical Journal, Yeo et al1 reported an informative study on the use of S-1 as adjunct chemotherapy after curative resection of gastric cancer. Since the active ingredient in S-1 is the prodrug tegafur, to be converted to 5-fluorouracil (5FU), much of the toxicity reduction depends on the degradation of 5FU by dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD...
